Hey everybody! This is just a quick post of me gushing over what I experienced at the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C. the other day.

So, because my professor is the G.O.A.T. (shout out to Professor Williams-Johnson!), my Social & Internet Marketing class was able to go to the NMAAHC before opening hours and take a tour of the museum. This was my second time there and I was FINALLY able to finish seeing everything! After we got a tour of the powerful, gripping, emotional,  heart-breaking, breath-taking, amazing exhibit of the history of my beautiful black people, I explored the Culture Galleries, which featured “Musical Crossroads” and I. WAS. LIVING. It’s just incredible how much talent and passion has come out of African American culture throughout history, and I am always ALLLLL the way here for it!

The “Musical Crossroads” gives you chills with the historical artifacts, the videos of performances, and interactive music-making. I was like a kid in a candy store! The exhibit covered just every genre of music there is where black people have flourished and are still flourishing (which, is pretty much all of them). I saw Jazz, Soul, R&B, Hip-Hop & Rap, Country, Blues, and so much more. It was so much more than just a curation of music! They also highlighted things like the roots of African music, “Music in the African Diaspora”, and the global impact of prominent artists. You are also able to produce your own sounds by mixing classic songs and rhythms together, and are able to play songs in the “record store” area.

In case you can’t tell that this exhibit excited me, just know that I can’t wait to go back. if you get the opportunity to visit this museum, please make sure not to pass this up! (AFTER you’ve gone through the history of our people, of course, because that is of the utmost importance)
